Liverpool has 14,975 VAT or PAYE registered businesses, according to the ONS UK Business Counts for 2026, and 87.3% of them employ fewer than ten people. The biggest group is professional, scientific and technical firms, with 2,360 businesses. Construction comes next with 1,830, then retail and hospitality, each making up about one in ten of the city’s firms. Arts, entertainment and leisure add another 8.8%.
That mix matters when you’re planning a website. A joiner in Walton, a dental practice in Allerton and a bar in the Baltic Triangle need very different things from their websites, but each one is up against someone a few streets away for the same customer.
We’re a Manchester web design team based in Whitefield, and we work with Liverpool businesses over video call. The same two people from the first call to launch day. And you never have to leave the shop, the site or the kitchen to do it.
A City That Keeps Building
The Baltic Triangle is now home to more than 500 businesses and has attracted £128m of investment, with £62m of new development on site (Bdaily, March 2026). Baltic Creative CIC, set up in 2009, provides space for around 100 organisations there. In the centre, Liverpool BID Company represents 865 levy payers across three business improvement districts: Retail and Leisure, Culture and Commerce, and Accommodation (Liverpool BID Company, October 2026).
More businesses opening. More competition for every search. A website that loads fast, looks the part and makes it easy to get in touch is how a small Liverpool firm stands out.
