Bury has 7,880 VAT or PAYE registered businesses, according to the ONS UK Business Counts for 2026. That covers the whole borough: Bury town, Whitefield, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom and Tottington. 90.7% of those businesses employ fewer than ten people, a higher share than Manchester, Liverpool, Preston or Cheshire West and Chester. Only 15 employ 250 or more.
It’s also a borough of builders. Construction is the biggest sector here, with 1,110 businesses (14.1%), just ahead of professional, scientific and technical firms (1,075). Of the places we’ve looked at, Bury is the only one where construction comes out on top. Retail, business support and property make up the rest of the top five.
So the typical Bury business is a trade, a shop or a small firm run by the owner. Busy. Hands-on. No time for the website. That’s exactly who our plan is for.
We’re based in Whitefield, at the southern end of the borough, about four miles from Bury town centre and two stops down the Metrolink. Like all our clients, Bury businesses work with us mostly over video call. It’s quicker for you, and it keeps the price sensible.
A Borough That’s Investing In Its Centres
Bury Market gets about 150,000 visitors a week, according to Bury Council’s Levelling Up bid. The council won £20m of Levelling Up funding for a new flexi-hall and replacement market canopies, with work scheduled to run from August 2024 to mid-2026.
Closer to us, the Prestwich Village regeneration is a £100m+ scheme by Bury Council and Muse to replace the Longfield Centre with new shops, a market, a library and homes. Its first phase, a 301-space travel hub off Fairfax Road, has been on site since March 2025 and was due for delivery in July 2026.
New space brings new businesses. And new businesses need to be found from day one.
