SEO Stockport

SEO In Stockport. Found First When Customers Search On Their Phone.

Plumbers in Edgeley, restaurants on the Underbanks, builders working from Reddish to Bramhall. When someone in Stockport searches for what you do, your name should be the one they find. More visibility. More calls. More customers. SEO from £400 a month, local SEO from £250.

Stockport, by the numbers

Small Firms. Busy Trades. Proud Independents.

There are 12,470 VAT or PAYE registered businesses in the Stockport council area, according to the ONS (UK Business Counts, 2026). That covers the whole borough, from the town centre to Cheadle, Marple and Bramhall. 89.3% are micro businesses with fewer than ten people, a bigger share than in Manchester or Liverpool.

Professional and technical firms are the largest group, with 2,145 businesses. Construction is next, with 1,600, or 12.8% of the total. That’s a much bigger share than in Manchester, where construction is 7.7%. Retail (1,055), business support (1,050), and arts, recreation and other services (940) follow, and there are 765 food and hospitality businesses.

So a lot of Stockport’s businesses are small, local and found on a phone: a plumber, a builder, somewhere to eat on the Underbanks tonight. That’s exactly the kind of search local SEO is built for.

We’re based in Whitefield, about 12 miles away as the crow flies. Two experienced specialists, with design, development and marketing under one roof, working with Stockport businesses over video call. No travel time. No wasted mornings. Just a quick call when there’s something worth talking about.

The searches that matter

What People In Stockport Actually Type Into Google.

We have Ahrefs data for “seo stockport”: more than 100 searches a month, rated Easy. For local trades and restaurants, we don’t have volumes yet, so here’s the next best thing: the searches Google itself suggests as people type (Google autocomplete, October 2026). A search only shows up there if people make it.

Someone typesGoogle suggests
plumber stockportemergency plumber stockport, plumbers stockport recommended, plumbers stockport prices, plumber edgeley stockport
electrician stockportelectrician stockport area, emergency electrician stockport
roofers stockportbest roofers stockport, roofers stockport reviews

hairdressers stockporthairdressers stockport open now, hairdressers stockport book online
estate agents stockportindependent estate agents stockport

People search by part of town. Underbank, town centre, old town, Edgeley. Customers don’t just type “Stockport”, they type where they are. A business with pages and a map listing that mention the areas it actually serves has more chances to match.

People search ready to act. “Emergency”, “open now”, “book online”, “recommended”, “best”, “reviews”. These are people who want to pick someone today. Reviews, opening hours and a phone number you can tap are what win them.

Watch out for Stockport Road. Stockport Road is also a long road in Manchester, and Google suggests searches like “dentist stockport road levenshulme”. Those people aren’t in Stockport at all. Clear location details on your site and profile help Google show you to the right people.

Professional firms are searched by name. For accountants, builders and estate agents, most suggestions are firm names: people looking for someone they’ve already heard of. That’s why reviews and a strong Google Business Profile matter as much as rankings.

What we found

What We Saw When We Checked Stockport’s Local Results.

In October 2026 we looked at who ranks for some everyday Stockport searches and ran simple checks on the websites we found. The samples are small, so treat these as what we found, not as figures for every Stockport business.

Trades: The Directories Win.

For “plumber stockport”, the top three results we saw were all trade directories. For electricians, every result we saw was a directory, a lead site or a job board. Not one electrician’s own website. If you’re a trade, the free listings are a fight against companies that sell your customers back to you.

We checked five plumbers’ websites that did show up:

  • 3 of the 5 had no local business schema, the code that tells Google your trade, area and hours.
  • 1 had no phone number on its homepage at all, so nothing to tap, and didn’t send visitors to the secure (https) version of the site.
  • 1 had a 2024 footer date.
  • 1 was slow to respond, taking almost four seconds just to send its homepage.

Restaurants: Easy To Book, Hard To Call.

We checked eight independent restaurants featured in the Stockport food guides.

  • 7 of the 8 had no tap-to-call link on their homepage. In four of them the number is there, but you have to copy it by hand.
  • 4 of the 8 had no restaurant schema, and 4 had no main heading on the page.
  • 1 had no working secure connection, so browsers can warn visitors away.
  • Two sent a very heavy page before a single image had loaded, which makes them slow on a phone signal.
  • All eight did link to table booking, which is good.

Accountants: Well Known, Technically Thin.

None of the three local accountancy sites we checked had local business schema. One showed its phone number as plain text, and two had footer dates of 2022 and 2024. In the results we saw, big national groups’ office pages and directories ranked above the local firms.

Many “SEO Stockport” Results Come From Outside Stockport.

The results for “SEO Stockport” were mostly pages from agencies based elsewhere, directories, and template pages that swap the town name into the same text. We’re upfront that we’re not in Stockport either: we’re a Greater Manchester team in Whitefield. The difference we offer is a page, and a service, built on real Stockport data.

How we approach Stockport

Stockport Is Lots Of Places. Show Up In The Ones You Work In.

Someone in Cheadle Hulme, someone in Marple and someone on the Underbanks are all “in Stockport”, but Google treats them as different places. A business listed only as “Stockport” won’t always show up for a search made in Bramhall or Reddish.

Here’s how we handle it:

  • Service areas set up properly. If you travel to customers, we set your Google Business Profile service area to match where you actually work, from SK1 to Hazel Grove to Gatley.
  • Area pages that say something real. Pages for the places you cover most, written for each area, not copied and pasted. A Heaton Moor homeowner and a Romiley landlord need different reassurance.
  • Consistent details everywhere. Your name, address and phone number matching across Google, Apple Maps, Bing and the directories that rank in Stockport, so Google trusts that you’re one real business.
  • Reviews that mention where you worked. A simple process for asking happy customers for reviews. Searches like “best roofers stockport” and “plumbers stockport recommended” show how much people lean on them.
