SEO Leeds

SEO In Leeds. Seen By The People Searching For You Every Day.

Plumbers in Horsforth, restaurants by Leeds Dock, builders working from Morley to Wetherby. When someone in Leeds searches for what you do, we help make sure they find your name. More visibility. More enquiries. More customers. SEO from £400 a month, local SEO from £250.

Leeds, by the numbers

A Big City. A Lot Of Small Businesses Competing To Be Found.

There are 29,830 VAT or PAYE registered businesses in the Leeds council area, according to the ONS (UK Business Counts, 2026). 87.1% are micro businesses with fewer than ten people. That’s more than in Manchester’s council area, and it covers a lot of ground: Leeds stretches out to Otley, Wetherby, Garforth, Morley and Pudsey.

Professional and technical firms are the biggest group, with 4,865 businesses. Construction comes next, with 3,850, or 12.9% of the total. Then come business support services (2,600), retail (2,480) and food and hospitality (2,025).

A lot of those are the businesses people find on their phone when they need someone soon: a builder for an extension, an electrician for a rewire, an accountant for this year’s tax return, somewhere to eat tonight. Local SEO is built for exactly that kind of search.

We’re a Manchester team based in Whitefield, working with Leeds businesses over video call. Design, development and marketing under one roof. No travel time. No wasted mornings. Just a quick call when there’s something worth talking about.

The searches that matter

How Leeds Actually Searches.

When you start typing a Leeds search, Google suggests how other people finish it. These are the suggestions we saw in October 2026. They show what people search for, not how often.

When someone typesGoogle suggests
plumber leedsplumber leeds 15, plumber leeds 16, plumber leeds 17, plumber leeds open now, plumber leeds prices
electrician leedselectrician leeds 8, electrician leeds 15, electrician leeds city centre
builders leedsbuilders leeds 15, builders leeds checkatrade
estate agents leedsestate agents leeds 8, estate agents leeds 15, estate agents leeds 17, estate agents leeds headingley
accountants leedsaccountants leeds for self employed, leeds accountants for small business, accountants leeds city centre
restaurants leedsrestaurants leeds city centre, restaurants leeds dock, restaurants leeds open now

Leeds searches by postcode. People don’t just type “Leeds”. They type “leeds 15”, “leeds 17”, “leeds 8”. If your website and Google profile only ever say “Leeds”, you’re missing the searches made by people who want someone in their part of the city. Pages and profiles that name the areas you really cover give Google a reason to show you.

Some searches are ready to buy. “Open now” and “prices” are the words of someone who wants to book today. A site that shows your hours, gives a clear idea of cost and has a phone number you can tap is the one that gets the call.

Professional services get searched by type of client. “Accountants leeds for self employed” and “leeds accountants for small business” are more specific than “accountants leeds”, and the firm with a page that answers that exact question is in a strong position.

SEO itself is a winnable search in Leeds. Ahrefs rates “seo leeds” as Easy, with more than 100 searches a month, and “local seo leeds”, “best seo leeds” and “seo company leeds” each get more than 100 too. If an SEO search is winnable in Leeds, so are plenty of the searches your customers make.

What we found

What We Saw When We Checked Leeds’s Local Results.

In October 2026 we looked at who ranks for some everyday Leeds searches and ran simple checks on their websites. The samples are small, so treat these as what we found, not as figures for every Leeds business.

Hardly Anyone Tells Google What Kind Of Business They Are.

Of the 12 Leeds trade and accountancy websites we checked, only 2 had local business schema, the code that tells Google your trade, area and opening hours. The other 10 left Google to work it out.

Plumbers: Directories First.

In the first results we saw, a trade directory took two places, alongside job boards and business listings, and no plumber’s own site appeared. Of the four plumbers’ sites we checked, all were secure and had tap-to-call, but three had no local business schema. One had a 2020 date in its footer and no image descriptions at all, and another had five main headings fighting for attention on one page.

Electricians: Decent Sites With Gaps.

All five electricians’ sites we checked were secure, with a tap-to-call link. Four of the five had no local business schema. One had no main heading and left two thirds of its images without descriptions, and one asked visitors to “contact us” with no quote or booking button.

Accountants: Established Firms, Old Habits.

One of the three independent accountancy sites we checked doesn’t move visitors to its secure version, so it can still open without a secure connection. It has no main heading either. Another had no tap-to-call link on its homepage. None of the three used the local business schema made for accountancy firms.

“SEO Leeds” Is Full Of Lists And Templates.

When we looked at the results for “SEO Leeds”, most of what ranked was round-up lists, directories and pages built from a template, including several for towns called Leeds in the United States. We’re upfront about it: we’re a Manchester team, not a Leeds one. What we offer is a page, and a service, built on real Leeds data. Not a city name swapped into a template.

How we approach Leeds

From LS1 To LS28. Leeds Is A Lot Of Places.

The Leeds council area runs from the city centre out to Otley, Wetherby, Garforth, Rothwell, Morley and Pudsey. Someone in Guiseley and someone in Cross Gates are both “in Leeds”, but they search for someone near them, and often by postcode.

Here’s how we handle it:

  • Service areas set up properly. If you travel to customers, we set your Google Business Profile service area to match where you actually work, whether that’s north Leeds, the whole LS area or across into Bradford and Wakefield.
  • Area pages that say something real. Pages for the places you cover most, written for each area, not copied and pasted. A Headingley landlord and a Wetherby homeowner need different reassurance.
  • Consistent details everywhere. Your name, address and phone number matching across Google, Apple Maps, Bing and the directories that rank in Leeds, so Google trusts that you’re one real business.
  • Reviews that mention where you worked. A simple process for asking happy customers for reviews. When customers naturally mention the area, that helps too.

For city centre businesses, the focus is different. Leeds BID represents 790 levy-paying businesses, and its current term, running to 2030, now reaches south of the river to Leeds Dock, Aire Park and the Temple area. In streets this busy, the map pack is crowded, and reviews, photos and a complete profile are what lift you above the business next door.
