Plumbers in Hoole, accountants inside the city walls, wedding venues out towards Tarporley. When someone searches for what you do in Chester, we help Google put your business in front of them. Not a directory. Not a firm two counties away. SEO from £400 a month, local SEO from £250.
The ONS doesn’t count businesses for Chester city on its own. Its figures cover the whole Cheshire West and Chester council area, which also includes Ellesmere Port, Northwich, Winsford and a lot of countryside. Across that area there are 13,845 VAT or PAYE registered businesses (UK Business Counts, 2026), and 88.4% of them have fewer than ten people.
Nearly one in five is a professional, scientific or technical firm: 2,725 businesses, a bigger share than in Manchester or Liverpool. Construction comes next with 1,560. Then there’s the visitor economy: 880 retailers and 850 places to eat, drink or stay, plus 670 health businesses such as dental and physio practices.
That mix matters for search. A consultant is chosen after someone compares three websites. A plumber is chosen in the first minute. A restaurant is chosen from the map. Each needs a different kind of SEO, and we plan yours around how your customers actually pick.
We’re a Manchester team based in Whitefield, with design, development and marketing under one roof. We work with Chester businesses over video call. You get a clear plan. Monthly updates. And a straight answer when you ask a question.

Chester shares its name, and Google has to guess. When we checked Google’s autocomplete suggestions for Chester searches in October 2026, Chesterfield, Chester-le-Street and several American Chesters appeared alongside Chester itself. For “plumber chester”, “electrician chester”, “builders chester” and “solicitors chester”, Chesterfield was the first suggestion. If your website and map listing don’t make it obvious you’re in Chester, Cheshire, you’re relying on Google to work it out.
Trades have a fair chance. “Plumber chester” is rated Easy and “electrician chester” Medium. A trade business with a clear website and a well-kept Google Business Profile can realistically reach page one. SEO for plumbers →
Wedding venues: rated Easy, but crowded. “Wedding venues chester” is rated Easy, yet when we looked, a single wedding directory filled the results. Your own site, your directory listings and your reviews all need to work together.
Professional firms face the toughest searches. “Accountants chester” and “estate agents chester” are both rated Hard, which fits a borough where nearly one business in five is a professional firm. Start with the narrower searches: your specialism, your part of the city, the questions clients ask before they call. SEO for accountants →
In October 2026 we looked at who shows up for everyday Chester searches and ran simple automated checks on the websites we found. The samples are small, so treat these as what we found, not as figures for every Chester business.
Of the nine results we saw for “seo chester”, four were directories or price guides, three had nothing to do with Chester in Cheshire (one was an agency page for Chester, Pennsylvania), and only two were agency pages. One of those agencies is based in the borough. The other runs pages for several cities from Lancaster. We’re upfront that we’re a Manchester team. What we offer is a page, and a service, built on real Chester data.
When we searched for plumbers and electricians in Chester, Cheshire, directories and job sites filled the results. Not one of the 19 results was a tradesperson’s own website. When we dug further and checked the trade websites we could find:
All five accountancy sites we checked were secure and had tap-to-call. But only one of the five had local business schema, and one was running a version of its website software from 2021. In a search rated Hard, small technical gaps like these are worth closing.
In Chester, you’re not just competing with the business down the road. You’re competing with directories, with businesses in other Chesters, and with old websites that still rank. Clear local signals and a site that works properly give you an edge most of your competitors haven’t taken.
Chester sits on the Welsh border, at the edge of a large rural borough, with a name shared by towns across England and America. That makes clear local signals more important here than in most cities.
Here’s how we handle it:
For city centre businesses, competition for the map is close. Chester Northgate’s indoor market has served over 6 million customers since it opened in late 2022 (Invest Chester), and the city centre has its own Business Improvement District. With that many businesses side by side, reviews, photos and a complete Google Business Profile help decide who gets the visit.

Both run on a 6-month minimum, because SEO takes a few months to build. After that it’s month to month. We’ll give you an exact price once we’ve seen your site and your competitors.

Pages and articles that answer the questions your customers ask before they get in touch.
Genuine listings and local mentions that build trust.
Rankings, visitors and enquiries, in a short, plain-English report.
We rebuilt Wrapd’s website around enquiries and rebuilt their Google Ads around the new site. Their conversion rate doubled, their cost per enquiry halved, and they had 338 more leads than the same period the year before. Good search work isn’t about traffic for its own sake. It’s about visitors who turn into customers.
“They’ve built us two cracking websites, a custom questionnaire for our backend, and have been a huge help with SEO and Google Ads/PPC. Since working with them, the quality and consistency of our leads has massively improved.”
If your homepage isn’t secure, shows an error message or has a phone number you can’t tap, ranking higher just sends more people to a dead end. We build fast, secure websites that are ready for Google from day one. £1,000 to start, then from £200 a month, and after 12 months the website is yours to keep. Web design in Chester →

Anything else, just ask. You’ll get a straight answer from one of us.
Yes. We’re based in Whitefield and work with clients over video call, so the distance doesn’t change the work. What matters is knowing how Chester people search and who you’re up against, which is why this page is built on real local data.
Because Google has to guess which Chester someone means, and Chesterfield is a big town with a similar name. In our autocomplete checks, Chesterfield came up first for several Chester trade searches. We make your location unmistakable: “Chester, Cheshire”, your postcode and the areas you cover, used the same way everywhere Google looks.
Yes. We work across the whole of Cheshire West and Chester, and the business figures on this page are for that whole council area, not just the city. If you’re in Saltney or Broughton, we’ll make sure you show up for Chester searches as well as your own village.
It’s more open than you might expect. Ahrefs rates “plumber chester” as Easy and “electrician chester” as Medium, and when we searched for Chester trades, directories filled the results. A trade business with a sound website and a well-kept map listing has a real chance of moving up.
It can be. “Wedding venues chester” is searched more than 100 times a month and Ahrefs rates it Easy, but a wedding directory took every result we saw. We’d work on your own site and your directory listings together, so couples find you whichever route they take.
Your SEO is carried out by our specialist SEO partner and managed by us. You deal with Dan and Jordan, who agree the plan with you, check the work and report back every month.
No. Nobody controls Google’s results, and anyone who promises first place is guessing. We promise honest work, clear reports and effort pointed at the searches that bring you customers.
A 6-month minimum, then month to month.
No hard sell. Just an honest conversation about your website, your map listing and who’s beating you locally, and what we’d do first. It’s all by phone or video call, so it fits around your day.
