SEO Nottingham

SEO In Nottingham. More Searches. More Calls. More Customers.

Electricians in Bulwell, accountants in the Lace Market, dentists in Sneinton. When someone in Nottingham types what you do into Google, we help make sure they find your business. Not the one down the road. SEO from £400 a month, local SEO from £250.

Nottingham, by the numbers

A City Of Small Firms. With Bigger Neighbours Than Most.

There are 9,940 VAT or PAYE registered businesses in the Nottingham City Council area, according to the ONS (UK Business Counts, 2026). 86.1% are micro businesses with fewer than ten people.

Professional and technical firms are the largest group, with 1,410 businesses. Construction comes next with 1,015, then retail (925) and food and hospitality (815). Health businesses add another 660.

Nottingham also has a bigger share of medium and large employers than any other city we’ve researched: 320 businesses with 50 or more staff, or 3.3%. That means the small firms are often competing online with much bigger names, and a well-run local listing is one of the few places where size doesn’t decide who gets seen.

The council area is also tightly drawn. West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold and Carlton all sit outside it, yet their customers search for “Nottingham”. Your SEO needs to cover the places you actually work, not just the city boundary.

We’re a Manchester team based in Whitefield, working with Nottingham businesses over video call. Design, development and marketing under one roof. No travel time. Just a quick call when there’s something worth talking about.

The searches that matter

What Nottingham Types Into Google.

We don’t yet have reliable volume figures for Nottingham searches, so we won’t guess. What we can show you is what Google suggests as people start typing. Google builds these suggestions from what people actually search for. Checked in October 2026.

Start typing…Google suggests
seo nottinghamnottingham seo agency, seo services nottingham, local seo nottingham, seo company nottingham
plumber nottinghamplumber nottingham prices, plumber nottingham city centre, heating engineer nottingham
electrician nottinghamelectrician nottingham prices, electrician nottingham ng7

restaurants nottinghamrestaurants nottingham city centre, restaurants nottingham halal, restaurants nottingham west bridgford
estate agents nottinghamestate agents nottingham city centre, estate agents nottingham students
accountants nottinghamaccountants nottingham city centre

People compare prices before they call. “Prices” comes up for both plumbers and electricians. A site that’s open about costs, or at least explains how you price a job, answers the question people are already asking.

Location matters, right down to the postcode. “City centre” appears for five of the sectors, and people add NG7, Sneinton or West Bridgford to narrow things down. Pages and listings that name the areas you cover give Google something to match.

The need behind the search is specific. NHS and emergency dentists, halal restaurants, student lets. The businesses that answer those exact needs on their site are the ones that turn a search into a call.

What we found

What We Saw When We Checked Nottingham’s Local Results.

In October 2026 we looked at who ranks for some everyday Nottingham searches and ran simple checks on the websites we found. The samples are small, so treat these as what we found, not as figures for every Nottingham business.

Plumbers: Crowded Out By Directories.

When we searched for plumbers in Nottingham, the whole first page was trade directories and job boards. Not one plumber’s own website appeared. If you’re a plumber, your Google Business Profile and your reviews are doing most of the work, because that’s where you can still be seen.

Electricians: Good Sites With Small Gaps.

We checked four electricians’ websites. All four were secure, which is good. But:

  • 1 showed its phone number as plain text, so you can’t tap it to call from a phone.
  • 3 of the 4 had no local business schema, the code that tells Google your trade, area and hours.
  • 1 had no main heading on the page, and none of its 23 images had a text description.

When we searched for electricians, job adverts took most of the first page, ahead of the electricians themselves.

Accountants: Mature, But Not Finished.

All five accountancy sites we checked were secure, and all five had a clear main heading. Even so:

  • 1 had no tap-to-call link.
  • 3 of the 5 had no local business schema.
  • 1 had a footer last updated in 2023.
  • 1 had more than half its images without a text description.

Most “SEO Nottingham” Results Come From Outside Nottingham.

Of the agency pages ranking for “SEO Nottingham” when we checked, none had a Nottingham address on its own homepage. They were agencies from elsewhere running pages for lots of cities. We’re upfront about being one of those ourselves: a Manchester team. The difference is a page, and a service, built on real Nottingham data. Not a template with the city name swapped in.

How we approach Nottingham

Your Customers Live Either Side Of The City Line. Your Listing Should Reach Both.

Plenty of places people call Nottingham sit outside the city council’s boundary. West Bridgford is in Rushcliffe, Beeston in Broxtowe, Arnold and Carlton in Gedling. To your customers it’s all Nottingham. To Google, they’re different places.

Here’s how we handle it:

  • Service areas set up properly. If you travel to customers, we set your Google Business Profile service area to match where you actually work, from NG1 to Beeston to Arnold.
  • Area pages that say something real. Pages for the places you cover most, written for each area, not copied and pasted. A Wollaton homeowner and a student landlord in Lenton want different things.
  • Consistent details everywhere. Your name, address and phone number matching across Google, Apple Maps, Bing and the directories that rank in Nottingham, so Google trusts that you’re one real business.
  • Reviews that mention where you worked. A simple process for asking happy customers for reviews. When customers naturally mention the area, that helps too.

In the city centre, the picture is different. The Nottingham Business Improvement District has run since 2016, and businesses voted again in July 2025, with 315 votes in favour out of 383 cast (Nottingham City Council). Streets this busy mean a crowded map pack, where reviews, photos and a complete profile are what lift you above the business next door.
