Restaurants in Jesmond and the Ouseburn, plumbers in Gosforth, trades working both sides of the Tyne. When someone in Newcastle searches for what you do, we help make sure they find your name. Not a business in Newcastle-under-Lyme. SEO from £400 a month, local SEO from £250.
There are 9,090 VAT or PAYE registered businesses in the Newcastle upon Tyne council area, according to the ONS (UK Business Counts, 2026). 85% are micro businesses with fewer than ten people.
The mix is what stands out. Food and hospitality is the second biggest group, with 1,005 businesses, or 11.1% of the total. That’s a bigger share than Liverpool (10.4%) or Manchester (8.3%). Construction follows with 925 businesses, then retail with 845, and arts, entertainment and recreation with 830. Professional and technical firms are the largest group, at 1,500.
So a lot of Newcastle’s businesses live or die by local searches: somewhere to eat on the Quayside tonight, a plumber in Heaton this morning, a builder for the extension. That’s exactly what local SEO is for.
We’re a Manchester team based in Whitefield, working with Newcastle businesses over video call. Design, development and marketing under one roof. No travel time. No wasted mornings. Just a quick call when there’s something worth talking about.
What Google suggested when we typed some everyday Newcastle searches in October 2026 (UK settings). These are real searches people make, but Google’s suggestions don’t show how often they’re made.
| When someone types | Google also suggests |
|---|---|
| plumber newcastle | newcastle under lyme, newcastle upon tyne, newcastle nsw, newcastle co down |
| electrician newcastle | newcastle under lyme, newcastle upon tyne, newcastle nsw, newcastle co down |
| restaurants newcastle | city centre, quayside, newcastle co down, newcastle under lyme, newcastle nsw |
| accountants newcastle | newcastle under lyme, newcastle west, newcastle nsw, newcastle upon tyne |
| restaurants heaton | heaton moor and heaton chapel (both in Stockport) before heaton newcastle |
| seo newcastle | seo newcastle upon tyne, newcastle seo agency, local seo newcastle, search engine optimisation newcastle nsw |
Google has a lot of Newcastles to choose from. For almost every trade we tried, Google offered Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire and Newcastle in New South Wales alongside Newcastle upon Tyne. Even “restaurants heaton” suggests Heaton Moor in Stockport first. If your website and map listing don’t make it obvious which Newcastle you’re in, you’re asking Google to guess.
People narrow it down themselves. Searchers add “upon tyne”, “city centre”, “quayside” or a neighbourhood: “restaurants jesmond”, “restaurants ouseburn valley”, “emergency plumber gosforth”. Those are the searches we build your pages around.
“SEO Newcastle” itself is rated Easy. Ahrefs puts it at more than 100 searches a month in the UK, rated Easy. We don’t yet have Ahrefs figures for Newcastle’s trade searches, so we’ll check the numbers for your trade before we start.
In October 2026 we looked at who ranks for some everyday Newcastle searches and ran simple checks on their websites. The samples are small, so treat these as what we found, not as figures for every Newcastle business.
We checked six plumbing firms’ websites that came up in the results.
All five electricians’ websites we checked were secure, had tap-to-call, a quote button and a proper heading. Two of the five still had no local business schema. In a sector this well served, small technical gaps like that can be the difference.
We checked three independent restaurants in the Ouseburn and Jesmond. None had a tap-to-call link in the homepage code we fetched, and one showed its number as plain text you’d have to copy by hand. Two of the three had no restaurant schema. Two linked to table booking, which is good.
Three of the results we saw were about Newcastle in Australia. Of the UK agency pages, three of four gave London addresses in their own code. We’re upfront about being from elsewhere too: a Manchester team. What we offer is a page, and a service, built on real Newcastle data. Not a template with the city name swapped in.
With so many Newcastles in the results, the businesses that win are the ones that leave Google in no doubt about where they are and where they work. Plenty of Newcastle trades also cover Gateshead and North Tyneside, which Google treats as separate places.
Here’s how we handle it:
For city centre businesses, the focus is different. NE1, the city centre’s business improvement district, is in its fourth five-year term, running to March 2029. In streets this busy, the map pack is crowded, and reviews, photos and a complete profile are what lift you above the business next door.

We rebuilt Wrapd’s website around enquiries and rebuilt their Google Ads around the new site. Their conversion rate doubled, their cost per enquiry halved, and they had 338 more leads than the same period the year before. Good search work isn’t about traffic for its own sake. It’s about visitors who turn into customers.
“They’ve built us two cracking websites, a custom questionnaire for our backend, and have been a huge help with SEO and Google Ads/PPC. Since working with them, the quality and consistency of our leads has massively improved.”
If your web address shows a holding page, your number can’t be tapped and there’s no main heading, SEO is pushing uphill. We build fast websites, ready for Google from day one. £1,000 to start, then from £200 a month, and after 12 months the site is yours to keep. See our web design →

Yes. We’re based in Whitefield and do nearly all our work over video call, so distance changes nothing. What matters is understanding Newcastle’s searches and competition, That’s why this page is built on real local data.
It can. When we typed everyday searches like “plumber newcastle”, Google suggested Newcastle-under-Lyme and Newcastle in New South Wales alongside Newcastle upon Tyne. We make your location clear everywhere Google looks: your site, your schema and your Google Business Profile, so you show up for the right Newcastle.
Yes. Gateshead is a separate place as far as Google is concerned. We set your Google Business Profile service area to match where you actually work, and build pages for the areas you cover most. Your rankings will usually be strongest closest to your base, so we focus effort where it brings the most work.
Yes. Food and hospitality is Newcastle’s second biggest business group, so it’s a crowded field. Your Google Business Profile does a lot of the heavy lifting: photos, menu, opening hours and reviews. We’ll also fix the small things that lose bookings, like a phone number you can’t tap to call.
Your SEO is carried out by our specialist SEO partner and managed by us. You deal with Dan and Jordan directly. We agree the plan with you, check the work and report back every month. A genuine partnership, not a ticket queue.
No. Nobody controls Google’s results, and anyone who promises first place is guessing. We promise honest work, clear reports and effort pointed at the searches that bring you customers.
A 6-month minimum, then month to month.
No hard sell. Just an honest conversation about where you show up in Newcastle today. We’ll check your website, your map listing and your local competitors, and tell you plainly what we’d do first.
